We all on Equal Ground! Manifesto of Clarence Ng and Stanley Ng – candidates for the Election Committee (Architectural, Surveying and Planning) Subsector Election.
Land planning and housing policies The government has consistently erred in its land planning practices and housing policies. Serious consequence follows – not only that housing becomes increasingly unaffordable, SMEs also struggles in their businesses and small shops and restaurants are forced out of the failing market. Malpractices in government policies have also led to serious consequences – to name a few: a monopolized economy dominated by a few, over-concentration of wealth and an imbalanced urban-suburb development. Consequences flowing from any of these factors are too grave for the society to bear. Abusive power of dominating tychoons Hong Kong has over 110 km2 of land – in theory there is over 1600 sq2 of land per capita. Despite the fact that Hong Kong is hilly nature, the low land cost reveals that the hilly land can be developed. It is therefore particularly dubious as to why there is currently not enough land to provide adequate housing for the general public.
In the light of these, we propose a sustainable policy that can put a halt to the current monopolizing climate dominated by a few land developers. We urge for better policies to accommodate the business needs of SMEs. There should also be adequate and affordable housing for all. The government should put forward long term and well coordinated policies in the light of the above visions.
